Great article and I think relevant to many sectors. The lesson, I think, is to move beyond "zero-sum game" thinking. In other words, instead of competing for a small slice from a small pie, work to grow the size of the pie for everyone!
I really enjoyed reading this article- I agree that the reward as an artist comes in so many different guises and working with others is a huge reward in itself. Interested in trying to work out how this circular alternative arrangement might look
Essentially kind of old skool when the competition wasn’t so high. I regularly share and curate into shows other miami artists work with ZERO reciprocity
This is a fantastic model. but I think it's something in the early stages and will need a little iteration. It will probably need a structure where the artists willing to take on the managerial and distribution tasks align artists according to skillset and perhaps compatibilities for potential colalborations and coops.
Love this idea of the reciprocity circle! ❤️ And valuing these types of exchanges (though harder to quantify or measure impact than purely financial ones) as equally integral to the success of artistic communities!
